- NOLLYWOOD BESTSELLER CENTERED ON CHILD WITCRAFTS & ABANDONMENT

SSNCEF has procured 7000 copies of Nollywood film ‘Edikan’ for distribution to schools and households in Akwa Ibom State. The film, produced by Emem Isong and Uduak Oguamanam of Royal Arts Academy and directed by Nollywood megastar, Desmond Elliot centres on child witchcraft stigmatization and abandonment.

Starring Ini Edo, Nse-Ikpe Etim, Moses Armstrong, Ime Bishop Umoh, Omoni Oboli among others, the film tells the pathetic story of two girls, Ime and Mfon, who are labelled as witches, abused and abandoned. The well scripted film brings the roots of child stigmatization to the fore and is most appropriate for rural population as the actors use Ibibio Language and sub-titled in English.
SSNCEF believes that Nollywood films have contributed immensely to sow seeds of child witchcraft beliefs in the collective psyche of Akwa Ibom people and SSNCEF hopes to make and support films that counter such beliefs.

In the next few months, ‘The False Prophets’ directed by the renowned Teco Benson and funded the Stepping Stones Nigeria will be launched. Also, SSNCEF is facilitation the production of a TV Drama Series tagged ‘Rejected’ and this will hit the airwaves by the fourth quarter of 2010.
